One of best places in the world to spot leopards is undoubtedly Arathusa Safari Lodge in Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa. Sabi Sands is a privately managed reserve on the border of the Kruger National Park. The owners and managers of Arathusa understand the value of the wildlife on their concession, so they jealously guard it and make sure it is managed sustainably. So much so, in fact, that the animals rightly do not fear safari vehicles, nor do the vehicles even cause the animals any stress. The numbers of vehicles is kept very low and the guides and trackers are extremely professional and respectful towards the game. This set-up creates a completely unique situation, where guests can get really close to ordinarily highly elusive animals.

Sounds too good to be true?

Well, take a look at the video below, which I shot from one of the Arathusa open safari vehicles using my iPhone. Seeing a grown female leopard this close and relaxed is a novelty in itself, but then watch what happens next when the cub shows up!

Amazing experience!
